PUBG @ BESL Pro

PUBG was added as a discipline to BESL Pro in Season 2 (2018) and was active until Season 5.

To put it simply – the game was absolutely NOT esports ready. Looking back at these edits I am astonished at how well received they were.

The initial workflow was for the discipline admin to write down all the best moments which I would then review and record in-game using observer replays.

Working with observer replays was surprisingly difficult – they were very unreliable. Choppy gameplay & random camera locks which outright prevented me from capturing some highlights.

Due to way too many complications, the plans for weekly highlights were scrapped. Season 2 was capped off with a basic highlight edit using VODs.

For season 3 the plan was to instead create two long-form videos that would sum up half the season. However, this proved to be much too resource intensive to do properly. The quality would have had to go way down to fulfill all the goals in time and so the second video was cancelled.

After that season the format changed to posting short-form, individual plays on social media.

For Season 5 I was also assigned with designing thumbnails for Instagram video posts.

The last serious BESL Pro PUBG video project to date is "What is PUBG" from Season 4 – a guide for new Latvian PUBG players & viewers.

Working on PUBG @ BESL Pro was a learning experience more than anything. If anyone reading this plans on making similar content – avoid observer replays at all costs unless PUBG has seriously improved their systems.

BESL Pro S3 Mid-Season Recap

As the season was progressing, each week I had to take the observer replays, find and record highlights to later put together in one long edit.

BESL Pro Season 2 PUBG Highlights

The plan for PUBG highlights was to use observer replays to create weekly highlight edits, but the replay files turned out to be unreliable and choppy.

An another issue was with sourcing the highlights themselves – often there weren't enough good moments for a full video. The attention was then shifted away from PUBG highlights and moved more towards CS:GO and LoL.

To cap off the season I was tasked with making an edit that uses clips from the VODs instead.

League of Legends @ BESL Pro

The first time I got to edit League of Legends highlights was during BESL Pro Season 1 (2018).

The workflow was for the discipline admin to write down all the best highlights which I would then record in-game using player replays. For each video I also recorded 1-2 cinematics to use for the intro.

Mostly unchanged the same formula was used in S2.

For the last few weeks of season 2 the decision was made to fully switch to VOD recordings instead of in-game due to troubles with sourcing player replays and to save on time.

BESL Pro Season 2 was the last season to have League of Legends as a discipline.
